Egis will present results already in four months since the project is a strategic one in terms of affecting other investments and priority projects promoted by the Ukrainian Railway public company. The contract is financed by the European Investment Bank.
Ukraine’s national transport network plays an important role in European transit flows with eight international corridors plus TRACECA crossing the country. By volume of freight railroad Ukrainian ranks fourth on the Eurasian continent, after the railways of China, Russia and India. Thus, 7 May 2014, the European Investment Bank and public company “Ukrzaliznytsia”, signed a loan agreement for EUR55 million to finance in part the construction of the Beskyd Tunnel.
The objective of the project is to develop the marketing strategy for the Pan European Corridor V in the Carpathian Mountains in the south-west of Ukraine and to enhance freight flows by means of more efficient logistics and better services for customers, thus providing faster return of investment. Therefore, based on the final conclusions of Egis experts, this marketing study assignment will support the investment project to complete construction of a new Beskyd tunnel
For Egis this is the first contract with Ukrainian Railways which gives the opportunity to the Group to present its widely recognized competence in the rail sector. As for Ukraine, it will add significant new capacity to the national rail network in the proximity with the EU borders and will help to eliminate the negative impact of the bottleneck on an important international rail corridor, and to reduce emissions due to heavy road transport.
