Kyiv, 21 September 2018 – Under the lead of Minister Volodymyr Omelyan, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, in collaboration with the European Investment Bank financed project “Modernization and Safety Improvements of the Road Network in Ukraine”, launched today a national speed prevention campaign.
The campaign, which includes video and audio messaging, outdoor adverts - billboards and city lights, posters, leaflets distributed in gas stations around the country, targets male drivers ages 30-45. The nation-wide campaign will have a regional focus Zhytomyr, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Kherson with the cities of Kyiv and Odessa also part of the awareness efforts to highlight the consequences of speed-related crashes and the importance of speed compliance among drivers, urging them to slow down.
The month-long road safety awareness campaign will also include an extensive online component, to be launched in partnership with Autocenter, focusing on traffic safety and law enforcement in Ukraine. Road safety TV programs will also be produced and broadcasted through Autocenter’s communication platforms.
“The country is going in the right direction in terms of its road safety efforts, but there is still a lot to do. This campaign is meant to keep the momentum. We want to inform the public that improving the level of road safety is an approach that needs the involvement both of the government and people themselves. There are things that government can do and there are things that road users (both drivers and pedestrians) can do. We want to remind the Ukrainians that speed has consequences for all, so Focus and Slow Down because Speed Kills” said Ramona Lupu, Road Safety Campaign and Communications Expert.
