Novovolynsk, a 50 000 inhabitants’ city in the west of Ukraine, was built in 1950 as a mining town. Currently, from the total amount of 11 mining companies, only 4 are still functioning. Thus, the need in water intake has significantly reduced.
The second urban infrastructure development project (Urban Infrastructure Project - 2) is the largest investment project of the Government of Ukraine in the field of water supply, drainage and pilot project on solid household waste management. The project is being implemented at 12 enterprises participating in 11 cities of Ukraine.
The Company “Novovolynskvodokanal” Housing and Communal Union of Novovolynsk City Council received a portion of the financing in the amount of US$ 5.985 million equivalent toward the cost of the reconstruction of waste water pumping stations and water transmission pipelines from Northern and Southern water intakes to city of Novovolynsk, and construction of two tap water treatment plants in the location of water intakes, and intends to apply part of the proceeds for the following consulting services: Preparation of designs for reconstruction of water transmission pipelines and construction of iron removal plant.
The main objective of the assignment is to provide sound design and bidding documents for the improvement of existing urban water supply system of city Novovolynsk.
